nWire 1.1 Sneak Preview: Filters are here

We are hard at work on version 1.1. One of the key features will be a much requested feature: filters. The ability to filter the information is critical, as nWire view can get crowded. Filtering allows you to get more specific views on your code like invocation diagram or inheritance diagrams.

It is one of these cases where a picture is worth a thousand words. The first image shows an example of the visualizer, showing invocations only.

The second image shows the new filters preferences pane. This is where filters are defined. There are a number of built-in filters and more can be added. If you have any feedback on this UI, drop us a line.

Comments

It would be great if there was a way to bookmark nWire navigation contexts, and perhaps even provide back and forward buttons to move quickly about your history of navigation contexts.

Thanks for the suggestions.

What exactly do you mean by "Navigation Context"? Just making sure I understand your comment.
Do you expect this back and forward buttons in the navigator?

I really like the filtering features and the ability to name filters for later use.

I would like to be able to turn certain associations on and off from the visualizer as your train of thought is currently interrupted going to and from the filter table when customising the view. Something like a context menu (mouse-right-click?) on the association elements or lines would be ideal.

I also second the idea of navigating back and forward through a history of views. Currently I believe once you expand one relationship and the diagram rearranges, it can be difficult to revert to what you were looking at prior to the expansion.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers,
Paul Hathaway
